Sheila Slocum Hollis is chair of the Washington, D.C. office of Duane Morris LLP, serving on the firm’s Executive Committee and Partners’ Board. She was the founding managing partner of the firm’s Washington office and its Energy, Environment and Resources Practice. Ms. Hollis specializes in domestic and international energy and environmental matters, representing governmental bodies and the energy industry. She is recognized by Chambers Guide (2008-present) and is AV® Preeminent™ 5.0 out of 5 rated by Martindale-Hubbell. Ms. Hollis was the first Director of the Office of Enforcement of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, establishing the office and its policies and procedures, serving from 1977 to 1980 and was a trial lawyer at the Federal Power Commission from 1974-1975. Recognized by the National Law Journal as one of the nation’s top energy lawyers, and by various organizations for her expertise in oil, gas, and electric law issues, Ms. Hollis was the first woman to serve as President of the Energy Bar, and was Chair of the American Bar Association’s Section of Environment, Energy and Resources. She now serves as the Section’s representative in the ABA House of Delegates and as its representative to the Nominating Committee of the ABA. Among the honors and recognitions accorded to Ms. Hollis over the course of her career include being:

• Named “Woman of the Year” by the Women’s Council of Energy and Environment in 2003;

• Recognized by George Washington University Law School for her twenty years serving as a Professorial Lecturer in Law on the subject of Energy Law – 1979-1999;

• Delivered the “Dean of the Oil and Gas Bar” Lecture in 2009 at the Center for American and International Law Energy Law Institute;

• Received the Paul Nordstrom Award in 2010 for contributions to the field of Energy Law and the Community from the Energy Bar Association and the Charitable Foundation of the Energy Bar;

• Received the Lifetime Achievement Award from Platts Global Energy in 2011; and

• Received the Outstanding International Alumni Award and delivered the Nanda Lecture at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law in 2012.

She also chaired the ABA’s Fund for Justice and Education, the Standing Committee on Environmental Law, the Coordinating Group on Energy Law and recently served a three-year term on the ABA’s Standing Committee on the Federal Judiciary. Sheila chaired the Board of Editors of the ABA Journal, and now chairs the Standing Committee on Gavel Awards. Sheila is vice-chair of the Federal Bar Association’s Energy, Environment and Natural Resources Division. She is also the representative of the ABA’s International Law to the Standing Committee of the Law Library of Congress. Recognized in Who’s Who in the World, America and numerous other biographical publications, she is also listed in “Super Lawyers”, guides to the World’s Leading Oil and Gas Lawyers, and other guides. She serves on the Board and is Treasurer of the United States Energy Association and the American Friends of the Royal Society. A Colorado native, she is a graduate of the University of Colorado (cum laude in overall studies and with honors in Journalism), and the University of Denver College of Law. Ms. Hollis is the co-author of numerous books, scholarly articles and other documents on the energy law topic. She has lectured throughout the world and led delegations to China, Central and Latin America, Russia, Mexico and other nations.
