Introduction

Welcome to the Winter 2016 issue of the Admiralty Law Section eNewsletter, Admiralitas. We appreciate all of the positive feedback we received following the first issue!

In this issue, we are spotlighting Howard G. “Mac” McPherson, an attorney in Hawaii who was the first person to chair the FBA’s Admiralty Law committee. For those who were not aware of his background, you will enjoy the spotlight on Mac.

We are pleased to present two featured articles in this issue. The first is an article by Arthur A. Severance, Corporate Counsel at Coastal Villages Region Fund. Mr. Severance’s article, “Navigating Maritime Personal Injury and Death Cases,” provides a helpful overview of the potential personal injury causes of action that can be asserted under maritime law and statute. Our second article, by Patrick B. Reagin, addresses the uncertain scope of available “non-pecuniary” damages in maritime actions. In addition, we have brief summaries of recent admiralty case law throughout the country, compiled by myself, S. Scott Bluestein, George M. Chalos, Michael W. McLeod, and Douglas W. Truxillo.

We look forward to expanding this newsletter in the future with additional admiralty law articles and to provide additional member information. If you are interested in joining the e-newsletter committee or otherwise want to share comments about the newsletter, please email me.

We hope you enjoy the newsletter.
