Admiralty Law Symposium Held on February 5, 2016

The Admiralty Law Section and American Bar Association TIPS Admiralty and Maritime Law Committee co-sponsored The Admiralty Law Symposium on February 5, 2016. Held in the beautiful new United States District Court for the Southern District of California, the seminar featured a host of prominent maritime lawyers from across the country. Michael McLeod, Vice Chair of the Admiralty Law Section, introduced round table, audience participation for each topic. Stan Loosmore, author of Arrested: The Complete Guide to Vessel Arrest, Custody, and Sale in Admiralty in Federal Court, led a discussion on vessel arrest and attachment by panel members Christopher Hamilton, Sarah Yantakosol Gayer, and Benjamin Allums. Michael McLeod, Arthur Severance, and Sterling Stires gave a lively explanation, defense and criticism of the Limitation of Liability Act. Charles Naylor, Scott Bluestein, and Kelly Scalise updated the audience on maritime personal injury, with a focus on recent maintenance and cure issues and the ongoing saga of punitive damages. Finally, Randolph Moore led a thoughtful analysis of a maritime product liability case with panel members Cory Birnberg and Sterling Stires. The seminar concluded with a networking reception sponsored by Robson Forensic, Inc.
