U.S. Middle District of Pennsylvania Court Senior Judge Malcolm Muir died July 22, 2011 at the age of 96. An honorary member of the Federal Bar Association, Judge Muir was nominated by President Richard Nixon on September 28, 1970 and was confirmed by the Senate in October that same year. Judge Muir graduated from Harvard Law School in 1938, and served in the United States Navy during World War II, from 1942 to 1945, rising to the rank of Lieutenant.

Known for constantly trying to improve his courtroom and also the system as a whole, primarily through example, Judge Muir was the nation’s fourth oldest judge at the time of his death.
