
James W. Satola was recently appointed by Cuyahoga County (Ohio) Commissioner Peter Lawson Jones to serve as a member of the Cuyahoga County Board of Revision, where he hears complaints filed by taxpayers related to the valuation of real property. Prior to his appointment, Jim was a Senior Attorney with the worldwide law firm of Squire, Sanders & Dempsey L.L.P. for close to 19 years, where his practice was focused on general civil litigation, with an emphasis on theft of trade secret, eminent domain, federal jurisdiction and procedure, and real property tax litigation. Prior to joining Squire, Sanders, Jim was a law clerk to United States District Judge John M. Manos of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio. He is admitted to practice in Ohio and the District of Columbia, as well as the Supreme Court of the United States, United States Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces, United States Courts of Appeals for the Second, Sixth, Eighth, and Ninth Circuits, and the United States District Courts for the District of Arizona, Northern District of Ohio, and Southern District of Ohio. He has been admitted pro hac vice in many other federal district courts. Satola is a Life Member of the Sixth Circuit Judicial Conference, has been a member of the John M. Manos Inn of Court (American Inns of Court) for over twenty years, and was named to Ohio Super Lawyers in 2006.
Jim has been a member of the Federal Bar Association since 1992, and has been a member of the Board of Directors of the FBA Northern District of Ohio Chapter since 1996. Satola was President of the FBA Northern District of Ohio Chapter from 2002-2003, and previously served as the Chapter's President-Elect, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary. In the year immediately following his Chapter Presidency, Satola served as the Chapter's official National Delegate to National Council. He has served on the FBA's National council every year since that time as either a National Presidential Appointee or as a designated Chapter Delegate. Jim has been active in the FBA Northern District of Ohio Chapter's activities since becoming a member, and has organized, hosted, and participated in scores of Chapter events over the years, including organizing and hosting three Supreme Court Swearing-in Ceremonies with Supreme Court Clerk of Court William K. Suter in Cleveland (in 2002, 2006 & 2009), which has resulted in the admission of over 275 northeast Ohio attorneys to the Supreme Court Bar. For many years, he also hosted the Chapter's annual Professionalism, Ethics & Substance Abuse Seminar. Jim remains an active member of the FBA Northern District of Ohio Chapter and its Board of Directors. He is also a Charter Life Fellow of the Foundation of the Federal Bar Association.
