
With more than 40 years of professional experience, Freehling has tried cases in both state and federal courts and before arbitration tribunals, and he has argued before three U.S. Circuit Courts of Appeal as well as the Illinois Appellate Court. His experience includes a wide variety of complex litigated matters, including securities fraud and deceptive trade practice matters; fraud class actions; employment discrimination actions under Title VII; insurance coverage disputes; antitrust cases; corporate control contests; actions under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act, and other consumer credit laws; business tort cases; defamation (libel and slander); will contests and trust construction matters; and product liability disputes. Additionally, Freehling has significant experience in alternative dispute resolution both as a neutral and as an advocate. He was recently appointed to the Roster of Distinguished Neutrals by the CPR Institute for Dispute Resolution; has been certified as an arbitrator by the American Arbitration Association, the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, and the National Futures Association; and has been trained as a mediator by U.S. Arbitration and Mediation of Illinois. Freehling has been honored a number of times by the Illinois State Bar Association including being named a laureate of the ISBA Academy of Illinois Lawyers. He was named the pro bono attorney of the month for January 2008 by Illinois Legal Aid Online.
