O’Grady currently serves as a vice president for the Ninth Circuit and vice chairman of the circuit vice presidents. She is the immediate past president of the Northern District of California Chapter of the FBA (she served a two-year term as president in 2004 and 2005 and a two-year term as vice president—San Francisco in 2002 and 2003). During the past several years, O’Grady was involved in organizing continuing legal education events sponsored by the chapter, including Ninth Circuit Appellate Workshops; “Blunders and Bull’s-Eyes: Things Lawyers Do Well and Wrong in Jury Trials;” “Remembering William O. Douglas: a Response to Recent Critics,” jointly sponsored by the chapter and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California Historical Society; and “Ten Ways to Get the Truth from an Adverse Witness.” During her presidency, the chapter actively supported the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California in their efforts to inform the public and other branches of the government of the dire consequences of the proposed 2004-2005 budget on the federal judiciary. O’Grady has been involved in organizing the annual chapter luncheons honoring the judges of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, at which Chief Judge Mary Schroeder traditionally gives a “State of the Circuit” report. More than forty federal judges and more than 400 lawyers attended the most recent luncheon, in March 2005. O’Grady is a life fellow of the Foundation of the Federal Bar Association.
