Brett A. Barfield is a business litigation partner at Holland & Knight LLP where he has practiced since 2000, following his federal judicial clerkship with the Hon. Edward B. Davis of the District Court for the Southern District of Florida. Brett is the immediate past president of the South Florida Chapter and a member of the FBA since 2004 and sits on the national Membership Committee. From 2010 to 2012, he served a special two-year term as president of the South Florida Chapter in order to implement a committee system of operation, which is largely how the chapter now operates. During that time the chapter increased its membership over 20%. He also serves as the chair of the chapter's Annual Federal Judicial Reception Committee, which is the chapter's largest annual event and raises most of the funds for its activities and operations. Brett has been responsible for coordinating this event for five years. Outside the FBA, Brett is currently a member of the Florida Bar and will co-chair the Florida Bar's Federal Court Practice Committee commencing in June 2013.

Brett is a member of the Dade County Bar Association and chairs a subcommittee of the Pro Bono Committee of that organization charged with redesigning and launching a one-stop-shop pro bono website for lawyers and clients across Miami-Dade county to increase lawyer participation in, and client access to, pro bono representation. The FBA South Florida Chapter launched this initiative of the county bar with a large grant in 2012.
