The Federal Bar Association requires a signed release for any photos taken of minors attending an event. The release ensures that each minor’s parent/guardian is informed that (1) photos will be taken at the event, and (2) that the photos may be used in promotional materials and advertising for the Federal Bar Association.

The program organizer should ask the participating schools to copy, distribute, and retain signed releases for every participating minor. This ensures that any participants are preapproved for appearing in photos, OR that program organizers and photographers shall avoid photographing those who are not authorized to appear in photos.

The FBA shall not identify any student by name and shall blur out the names on any visible name badges. If subsequent marketing materials call for identification, the FBA shall only identify minor participants in a generic way: e.g., “These fifth-grade students from Any School Elementary participated in mock trial event on Jan. 26, 2016.” Additionally, it is the responsibility of the school chaperones at the event to notify the program organizers and photographers if there are students that are not authorized to be photographed.
