Join the leaders of the Federal Bar Association for the inaugural Leadership Summit.  The Summit will combine programming typically held during the association’s former Midyear and Leadership Training Meetings.  This combined meeting will streamline information for current and upcoming leaders and provide new opportunities to expand national networks to strengthen personal, professional, and organization relationships ensuring the success of your leadership career within the FBA. 


Online pre-registration for Leadership Summit is now closed. You may register onsite at the registration desk on Friday and Saturday, starting at 8:00am ET.

Who Should Attend?
FBA Chapters, Sections and Division are encouraged to support their leadership by sending one incoming chair or other incoming leader to the Leadership Summit on Friday, March 22 as well as up to two voting members to the Midyear Meeting on Saturday, March 23.  All participants are invited to attend Capitol Hill Day on Thursday, March 21 or attendees may also elect to volunteer as a judge for the Thurgood Marshall Moot Court Competition on Wednesday, March 20.

Thursday, March 21
8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Capitol Hill Day
Washington, D.C.
Plan to participate in this acclaimed event as FBA leaders from across the country meet with House and Senate offices to discuss important FBA legislative issues that impact the administration of justice and the federal courts. During meetings on Capitol Hill, FBA participants will discuss issues most critical to our Third Branch of government, including: adequate funding for the federal courts, filling judicial vacancies promptly, and sufficient judgeships to render justice.

Training and materials will be provided to Capitol Hill Day participants in advance of the event to provide issues understanding and advocacy effectiveness on the Hill. Participants also are responsible for scheduling their meetings with their Senate and House offices.

Leadership Training
Leadership Training serves to provide new leaders with an onboarding experience that gives attendees the tools required to lead to success.  Chances are that you know someone who became a leadership hero by implementing takeaways from Leadership Training; we want the same for you.  Above all, you will engage with your fellow best-and-brightest from across the country - new and seasoned leaders alike - to share success stories and fables of failure… there’s always something to learn!

Icebreaker and FBA Operational Information
Attendees will meet one another and understand the structure of Federal Bar Association and its affiliates (Foundation of the FBA, Federal Bar Building Corporation).

FBA Government Relations: Making an Impact on Capitol Hill    
Learning objectives will cover the roles chapter, section, and divisions play in the FBA Government Relations Program. Additionally, this session will address the entire process of submitting items for the GRC’s issues agenda to follow up with members of Congress and will provide leaders will have a greater understanding of how the GRC works.

Membership Strategies for Success
This session will review National membership data and identify ways to increase recruitment and retention; Association-wide membership trends; and current activities of the FBA Membership Committee.  Leaders will also gain usable tips on how to recruit, engage, and retain members.

10:45 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.

Round Tables
FBA Staff and current Chapter and Section Leaders will be stationed at tables with designated topics that will cover strategies for success. Participants will have 12 minutes at each table to have an open dialogue with Q&A with the opportunity to visit up to six strategic topics of choice.

There's something for everyone with these quick-fire presentations! A series of FBA superstars will share their tips and tricks to give new leaders a head start on their road to success. Topics will range from successful collaborations, to refining your value proposition, to differentiating yourselves from the competition.

Section and Division Strategic Planning
All current Section and Division Leaders are encouraged to attend.

The objective of this session, led by consultant Harrison Coerver, is to solicit ideas and issues that should be addressed in the association's strategic plans as well as discuss the future of the FBA.

Chapter and Circuit Leader Meeting
All current Chapter Leaders and Circuit Vice Presidents are encouraged to attend.

Building on the success of the round-table session at the recent Annual Meeting & Convention in NYC, attendees will split into groups to discuss a range of FBA-related topics, then tables will share their meaningful ideas with the audience at large. This session is an opportunity to hear how fellow Chapters around the country are facing challenges and staying productive when it comes to membership, relevant programming and content, and lending helping hands to their local community.

Town Hall Meeting
All Midyear Meeting attendees are encouraged to attend.

Strategic planning continues with consultant Harrison Coerver as he leads a town hall forum to explore opportunities to strengthen the FBA-chapter relationship and to solicit ideas about how the FBA can add value for its members.

Federal Bar Association National Council Meeting
Each Chapter is entitled to up to two voting attendees at the National Council Meeting. Voting attendees include the current Chapter President or his/her designee and chapter delegate.
