Hon. Robin Feder, Director

Hon. Robin E. Feder (personal capacity) was appointed as an immigration judge by the United States Department of Justice, Executive Office for Immigration Review, in November 2006. She is the immediate past chair of the Board of Immigration Appeals Precedent Decision Committee. Before becoming an immigration judge, she was an assistant U.S. attorney at the United States Attorney’s Office, District of Rhode Island, where she also served as chief of the Civil Division. Before that, Judge Feder served as an assistant attorney general and as chief of the Civil Division at the Department of Attorney General, State of Rhode Island. She has also worked in private practice in Providence and Chicago.

She has served in a leadership capacity with the Federal Bar Association since 2003 when she joined the Board of the Rhode Island Chapter, served as its Secretary, and later, Vice President, President-Elect and from 2007-2009, as the Chapter’s President. She remains a member of the Rhode Island Chapter’s Board. In 2008 and 2009, Judge Feder accepted, on behalf of the Rhode Island Chapter, Chapter Activity Presidential Awards in recognition of its Accomplished and Superior Chapter activities.

She is also past chair of the Immigration Law Section. She joined the ILS Board in 2009 and was elected to serve as Vice Chair and then Section Chair during the Section’s 2014–2015 term. During her tenure, the Section grew by 28 percent as she and Section leadership reached out to law students, younger lawyers, members of the non-profit and public sectors, as well as attorneys in private practice, expanded the Section’s programming, and collaborated with Chapters and other Sections. For these efforts, the ILS received the FBA’s 2015 Section and Division Recognition Award “in recognition of outstanding service and achievements in programming, membership outreach and communication.”

Judge Feder is also a member of the Judiciary Division, the International Law Section, and serves on the FBA Section and Division Council’s Bylaws Task Force. She has previously served on the FBA’s Chapter Activity Fund. Judge Feder serves on the Board of Directors in her personal capacity.
