Board of Directors

The FBA Board of Directors are the governing body of the association.

The Board of Directors consists of the president, president-elect, treasurer, and 12 elected directors who represent segments of the membership.  There are three ex officio members and the executive director who attend Board meetings but are non-voting members of the Board.

Officers


Robert J. DeSousa, President


Robert J. Desousa is the state director for U.S. Senator Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania. He is a lieutenant colonel in the judge advocate general’s corp of the Pennsylvania Army National Guard.


Hon. Gustavo Gelpi, Jr., President-Elect


Hon. Gustavo A. Gelpi, Jr. has been a FBA member since 1992. He was president of the Puerto Rico Chapter in 2000, then served as vice president for the First Circuit for two terms, and served on the national Board of Directors from 2006–2009.


Matthew B. Moreland, Treasurer


I began my involvement with the FBA through the National YLD’s Moot Court Program under a new appointment to the National FBA YLD Board of Directors.

Matthew T. Acock


Matthew Acock has been a member of the Federal Bar Association since 2004. He is President of Acock Consulting, L.L.C. and Vice President of Acock Engineering & Associates, L.P.


Christian K. Adams


Christian Adams is a partner in the Litigation and Alternative Dispute Resolution Practice Group at Carlsmith Ball LLP in Honolulu, Hawaii.


W. West Allen


West serves as Government Relations Committee Chair for the FBA. He previously served Chair of the Federal Bar Association’s Vice Presidents of the Circuits from 2009 to 2011.


Kip T. Bollin


Kip T. Bollin is a litigation partner at Thompson Hine LLP in Cleveland, Ohio, focusing on the defense of product liability and business claims, including putative class actions.


Robert S. Clark


Many years of membership in the FBA has enriched my professional and personal life. I was privileged to serve the Utah Chapter as a board member, officer, and chapter president.


Henry Eigles


Henry Eigles has been a member of the Federal Bar Association for 46 years. During his tenure in the FBA Mr. Eigles has served in a number of leadership positions, including Chair of the Health and Human Services Section in 1989-1990.


Hon. Elizabeth A. Kronk


Hon. Elizabeth A. Kronk is an Associate Professor of Law at The University of Kansas School of Law where she serves as the director of the Tribal law and Government Center and as an Affiliated Professor of Indigenous Studies.


Matthew C. Moschella


Matthew C. Moschella is a partner at Sherin and Lodgen LLP in Boston, Mass. where he represents clients in all types of civil litigation.


Hon. Michael J. Newman


Hon. Michael J. Newman was appointed as a magistrate judge in the Southern District of Ohio in July 2011.


Patrick E. O’Keefe


O'Keefe is a 1975 graduate of Loyola University School of Law in New Orleans. He was captain of the National Championship Moot Court Team in 1974 and he was selected Best Oralist in the national competition....


Elizabeth G. Smith


Beth Smith served as a member on the Board of Directors of the Federal Bar Association for the 2010-11 FBA year, having been appointed to fill an unexpired term.


Maria Z. Vathis


Maria Z. Vathis has been a member of the Federal Bar Association since the beginning of her legal career. She served as Chicago Chapter President in 2011.

Hon. Michelle Burns is currently a U.S. magistrate judge in Phoenix, Ariz., appointed to the bench on Mar. 1, 2007.


Raymond J. Dowd


Ray Dowd is a partner in Dunnington, Bartholow & Miller LLP in New York City. He has conducted numerous bench and jury trials and arbitrations.


Stephen R. Jackson


Steve is a partner with Willcox & Savage, P.C. in Norfolk, Virginia and has been a member of the Federal Bar Association for over 20 years.


Kelly Scalise


Kelly Scalise is a shareholder at Liskow & Lewis in New Orleans, practicing in the areas of admiralty insurance, tort defense and products liability defense.
