Minnesota Chapter 2016 Grants

The Minnesota Chapter is the second largest chapter in the Federal Bar Association, with a long history of commitment to philanthropy, community service and outreach. This year, the Minnesota Chapter provided grant funding to support a number of nonprofit programs in the state that provide services consistent with the Chapter’s mission.

Part of the mission of the Minnesota Chapter, as articulated in the Chapter By-Laws, is “[t]o enhance the availability of legal service, to support programs of law-related education, and to advance the administration of justice within the federal court system.”  The Chapter has for many years contributed Chapter funds to various 501(c)(3) organizations for activities that further that mission.

The funding for the grants comes from a variety of sources, including the Minnesota Chapter’s monthly luncheons, annual dinner-dance, and annual federal practice seminar.  The Minnesota Chapter annually contributes to its Donor Advised Fund, which was created in 2003 and is managed by the Foundation of the Federal Bar Association.   Over the last decade, grants in excess of several hundred thousand dollars have been made from the Donor Advised Fund.

As in past years, this year the Minnesota Chapter’s Grant Committee solicited and reviewed numerous applications from organizations seeking grants.  The Grant Committee’s recommendations were adopted by the Minnesota Chapter’s Board of Directors, and the request for distributions was made to the Board of the Foundation of the FBA.  The Board of the Foundation of the FBA unanimously accepted the Chapter’s recommendations and distributed grants to many worthy organizations, including:
