Bailiff Participation Information

Thank you for volunteering to be a bailiff for the 2017 Thurgood Marshall Moot Court Competition!


If you are no longer able to volunteer, please notify Josh Albertson as soon as possible.

Dress Code:
Please wear black pants or black skirt and a business-appropriate white shirt (black cardigans or blazers are fine). No jeans or sneakers, please.

Preliminary Round Bailiffs – Thursday, March 16
Arrival Time: 5:30 p.m. (please allow extra time to go through security)
Start Time: 5:45 p.m.
End Time: 9:00 p.m.


Location:
District of Columbia H. Carl Moultrie I Courthouse
500 Indiana Avenue, NW, at the corner of 5th Street, NW and Indiana Avenue

The Courthouse is accessible via the Metrorail Red Line Judiciary Square Station (once in the station, take the exit marked "D.C. Courthouses" for the Moultrie Courthouse). In addition, the Archives/Navy Memorial Station on the Yellow and Green Line and the Gallery Place/Chinatown station on the Yellow Line, Green Line and Red Line Lines are within walking distance.

Arrival Instructions:
Please arrive by 5:30 p.m. and report to the 3rd floor to check-in at registration. Note that you will be required to pass through security when you enter the building. Please be sure to have a photo ID with you.

Sarah Perlman, FBA Staff, will introduce you to your new role. You will receive a packet of materials including: a set of general instructions, a timer, a nametag (which you are required to wear), a chart with room assignments, and time cards.

Please thoroughly read through the bailiff instructions before arriving so that an FBA staff member can answer any questions prior to the start of the preliminary round.

The Federal Bar Association Staff will be collecting scoring sheets from you at the end of each round and should be available to answer questions that arise during the competition.

Preliminary rounds will end at 9:00 p.m. At this time, we ask that you return your bailiff’s packet to an FBA Staff Member at the Registration Desk.

Round of 16 Bailiffs – Friday, March 17
Arrival Time: 8:15 a.m. (please allow extra time to go through security)
Start Time: 8:30 a.m.
End Time: 12:30 p.m.

The U.S. Court of Federal Claims is located on Madison Place between Pennsylvania Avenue and H Street, NW, on the east side of Lafayette Square across from the White House, in downtown Washington, D.C. The Blue Line, Orange Line, and Silver Line stop at the Metrorail McPherson Square Station. Follow the exit signs toward the White House. At street level, go left at the top of the escalators to Vermont Avenue and turn right, in the direction of H Street. Cross H Street, where Vermont Avenue becomes Madison Place. The National Courts Building's main entrance is mid-block on Madison Place on the left side of the street.

End Time: 4:30 p.m.
