Driven Across the Globe to Make a Difference in the World

Driven Across the Globe to Make a Difference in the World
Agata Kuzniar

On Sept. 23, 2003 my life changed forever. I said goodbye to my family in Poland and took a giant leap of faith by pursuing my dreams and boarding a plane bound for America. My decision to leave everything behind was driven by my passion for the American Legal System. Fearless, I stepped off the plane, full of excitement and passion to begin my new journey. I was determined to achieve my dreams.

A lot has happened since then. First, I attended a Legal Assistant Degree Program at Norwalk Community College. The legal classes I took further solidified my passion for the American Legal System. Upon completion, I transferred to the University of Connecticut. I was a student by day and a waitress/bartender by night. I learned to manage my work and school schedule and still assist with organizing on-campus events.

As a part of the Stetson University College of Law family, I am closer than ever to reaching my dreams. My passion for the American Legal System grows even more. I am a litigation paralegal by day and a law student by night. Over a decade later, I am excited to channel my passion for law as a new member of Law Review at the Stetson University College of Law. It was a challenging journey to overcome the language barrier as I matriculated through the American education system. Nonetheless, determination to achieve my dreams drives me to continue my path, regardless of how challenging it may become.

It is sometimes difficult to have my family thousands of miles away. It is not easy to be alone in another country, surrounded by only friends—no family. It is not easy to work non-stop to pursue your dreams. It is also not easy to work full-time while pursuing those dreams. Yet, I know it is going to be worth it in the end.

It is a tremendous honor for me to serve Law Review at the Stetson University College of Law. It not only solidifies my conviction that dreams are attainable with hard work and determination, but also shows that not all journeys of great American advocates begin in America. Sometimes, they begin an ocean away in a small town in Poland. Thus, I am convinced students like myself, driven by passion, and not afraid to take a leap of faith to follow their dreams, will use that drive to help others and ultimately make a difference in the world.
