A Message from the Chair
Ashley Akers

FBA Law Student Division members,

Thank you for taking the time to read The Lounge, the publication of the Law Student Division.

The Law Student Division looks forward to working with your law school chapters this year to organize networking events and programs, grow your chapter, bring in speakers, match you with a mentor, coordinate service projects, and provide you with opportunities to gain employment after graduation.

The Division is participating in the FBA’s national community outreach project in April. Our project encourages law students across the country to visit a local middle school and teach a civics class. All materials will be provided to the students. We hope this will provide law students an opportunity to connect with the community in a way that law students are uniquely fit.

We are also establishing a nationwide mentorship program! Law Student Division members will have the opportunity to connect with a mentor anywhere in the United States. Please keep an eye out for more details about this program.

Finally, the FBA’s annual Moot Court Competition will be held in March in Washington, D.C. If you are participating in the competition this year, good luck! I hope to have the opportunity to meet you and learn about your experience in the FBA.

If your school does not have a law student chapter, we would like to help start one! Please email me at akershley@gmail.com to take advantage of the wonderful resources and opportunities available to Law Student Division members.

Finally, visit http://www.fedbar.org/Divisions/Law-Student-Division/Officers.aspx to meet your Law Student Division Board Officers.

I hope to talk with you soon.

Ashley
