Message from the President

The United States District Court for the Southern District of Illinois is excited to announce the formation of a local chapter of the Federal Bar Association. We encourage you to learn more about the Federal Bar Association and to join our chapter, which promises to be a dynamic community dedicated to promoting the welfare, interests, education, and professional development of attorneys and judges involved in federal law.

The Federal Bar Association, founded in 1920, is an influential legal bar association consisting of more than 18,000 members, including 1,500 federal judges. FBA members run the gamut of federal practice: attorneys practicing in small to large legal firms, attorneys in corporations and federal agencies, and members of the judiciary.

To promote the sound administration of justice, FBA members are privy to vibrant programs that enhance their professional growth. Joining the FBA entitles you to membership within the national organization as well as within your local FBA chapter. Membership will provide you with technical information, advocacy, and professional networking opportunities to help advance your career. FBA members receive a host of special benefits designed to uphold the mission of the FBA and support each member’s career within the federal legal system. As part of your membership in the FBA you will receive the following:

  • Member Plus Program—savings and discounts from Program partners;
  • Online membership directory;
  • Discounted rates for CLE, networking events, publications, and other services;
  • Educational and leadership opportunities from your local chapter, practice area sections, and career divisions;
  • Monthly updates on recent government relations developments; and
  • News and substantive articles in The Federal Lawyer magazine, the FBA eNewsletter, and section and division newsletters.
We already have a number of exciting things planned for 2017, including local CLE and networking opportunities and community outreach events. Please note that membership in the FBA does not obligate you to perform any pro bono legal services beyond what is required by your membership in the Southern District of Illinois.

We invite you to sign up for membership at www.fedbar.org/join. When doing so, please select the Chapter for the Southern District of Illinois. If you have questions, please contact a member of the founding committee, Georgiann Oliver, Denise Baker- Seal, Joe Bleyer, Ed Dawson, Ted Gianaris, Cindy Hagan, Blaire Klehm, Justin Kuehn, Russell Scott, John Stobbs, Dan Price, Nathan Stump, or me. The founding committee looks forward to welcoming you to our unparalleled professional legal association!

Sincerely,

Nancy J. Rosenstengel
United States District Judge
